James Hoffman, MS
Administrator

James received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a Master's degree in Health Sciences Administration from California State University at Northridge. Born and raised in Southern California (a fourth generation Californian!) he also lived in France and Germany for several years and travelled extensively throughout the European Continent. Following a four year military enlistment which included tours of duty in Southeast Asia as well as the medical management experience of running a Surgery/Urology clinic at Womack Army Hospital in North Carolina, he again opted for travel by heading for Alaska. With only his Siberian Husky, Temajin, for company, he spent two and half years north of the Arctic Circle in Alaska panning for gold, digging snow caves and trying to stay warm in the long, cold nights in the Brooks Range mountains.
After returning to Los Angeles and working as a Cytotechnologist, James met Charolette Hoffman who was then managing the computer system for the laboratory. They were married on board a restored pirate ship under full sail in the Los Angeles harbor in 1980. James read the computer manuals that Charolette had in her office and quickly became interested in computer programming. He eventually became a Systems Programmer in the mainframe VM/370 and MVS operating systems. Working for IBM, James managed a group of computer consultants who specialized in "bleeding edge" systems integration projects that were highly successful.
After moving to Pittsburgh in 1993, James became the Administrator of MWPS in January of 2000. He is currently responsible for managing and directing the business operations of the corporation including overhead management, budgeting, business development and information technology. He is the OSHA, IRS, and HIPAA compliance officer and is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with lawyers, CPAs, consultants, bank officers, and vendors. He is responsible for the development and maintenance of policies and procedures for finances, long-term tax and strategic planning, as well as emergency and disaster preparedness.
